History and evolution

It seems it was yesterday, and it has already passed 11 years since 1.997, when the 1st Edition of Asturforesta was organized, a National Forest Fair which was a milestone of the sector due to its status as “Fair in Conditions of Real Labor “, that is, forestry machinery and services are in their usual environment and perform their usual functions, allowing potential buyers to assess, test and check all options.

The Council of Tineo, a municipality with a high forest potential, and the Principality of Asturias, embark on the adventure of organizing this event on Monte Armayan, a beautiful pine forest radiata and pinaster, eight kilometers from the City Council, laying with its first 59 brands, the groundwork of what today is the reference showcase of the Forest Sector in the Iberian Peninsula.

The joint effort of the Autonomous and State Administration, the City Council of Tineo and the Professional Associations of the sector, has consolidated as a meeting place for professionals of the wood and forestry industry from all over the Iberian Peninsula and other countries of the European Union.

Throughout various editions, Asturforesta laid the foundations for a cohesive sector that works seamlessly for a common goal, which is the development of a dynamic, solid, balanced forestry sector and as a consequence, an important pillar in the economic future of Asturias.

Asturforesta has also made possible an increase in the exchange of information between exhibitors and visitors, whose fruit was the technological renewal of many companies, the expansion of the market of services and products, and a notable contribution to social and political awareness regarding the Forestry Sector .

Once again, the Official State Gazette published the Resolution of 12/29/2012 of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (BOE that publishes the calendar of international fairs in Spain). We are the only international forestry fair in Spain, and the only existing International Fair in Asturias. We have shown, therefore, that we are capable of attracting the forestry sector’s gaze, both nationally and internationally, at the highest level.

Finally, and after tough negotiations, Asturforesta has joined as a full member in the Forestry Demo Fairs, an international non-profit organization that houses the elite of world forestry fairs, such as Elmia-Wood in Sweden, Finnmetko in Finland, KWF in Germany, Euroforest in France, EKO-LAS in Poland, and Expoforest in Brazil, as well as new projects in Romania and Russia. We also collaborate with the EXPOFLORESTAL Portuguese Fair, in which we have recently ratified the collaboration agreement.

Just briefly remember of the Asturforesta numbers: more than 200 Manufacturers and Official Organizations will be represented at the Fair, being the largest percentage of them foreign (70% in the previous edition, mostly Finnish, German and Swedish, followed closely by France, Austria and Italy), and we expect to receive some 15,000 visitors from all over Europe (the foreign percentage in Asturforesta 2.013 amounted to 28.75%, mainly from Portuguese, French, German, Romanian and Moroccan), who will attend during the next 20, June 21 and 22 to the most important demonstration of products, technology and services in the Spanish forestry sector.

The fairground, which currently occupies an area of 45 hectares in a mountain owned by the City Council of Tineo, managed through an agreement with the Ministry of Rural Development and Natural Resources, forest certification (PEFC), as well as the high dissemination that the Asturforesta Marketing Plan has made throughout these last two years, with presence in other international fairs in Germany, France, Poland and Portugal, as well as in other national fairs, has allowed us to quadruple the initial number of brands present, consolidating the specific weight of our fair at European level.

Our current execution budget exceeds € 350,000, contributed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the Principality of Asturias, and the City Council of Tineo.

Looking ahead to this XII Edition, we expect that June of 2011, the strong and long economic crisis suffered at all levels, is only a bad memory, leading to an increase in the volume of exhibitors and commercial transactions during the celebration of this new edition of Asturforesta.

On the other hand, our relationship with the select group of the Forestry Demo Fairs, in which the quality of the exhibition and the quality in the prevention and safety of the event play, if possible, a more important role than the number of visitors and / or exhibitors of the fair, multiplying the possibilities of exchange of exhibitors at an international level.

We are proud that Asturforesta continues to contribute its “granite of sand” to the forestry sector, as it was initially a project that should serve as a base for the meeting, union, collaboration and dissemination of the forestry sector at a regional and local level, has made possible a increase in the exchange of information between exhibitors and visitors, whose fruit was the technological renewal of many companies, the expansion of the market of services and products, and a notable contribution to social and political awareness regarding the Forestry Sector.
